THE INFLUENCE OF THE UNIVERSITY ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF SMART AND SUSTAINABLE CITIES

Abstract

This article aims to highlight the importance of the university for the development of smart and sustainable cities. For that, initially, some theoretical concepts are highlighted, different terms adopted and challenges of smart and sustainable cities. Then, the university and its influences in the contexts of smart and sustainable cities are presented. Her contribution as a knowledge intermediary in smart city projects, the possibilities that she provides, through the involvement of her researchers with the local context, in the search for sustainability solutions, among other related initiatives. In the sequence, the methodology is presented in which, based on a systematic review of the literature, it seeks to answer the following question: what are the university's contributions to the development of smart and sustainable cities? Based on the survey of articles, a summary table is prepared, with seven major themes identified, according to the views of the researched authors. The study shows that the university has different possibilities for study approaches and that strategic partnerships can present better results.
