Thinking about economic development in Brazil and Latin America without thinking about the intellectual production of Celso Furtado (1920 - 2004), is to disregard part of the epistemologies from the South to the South. Therefore, this article aims to present a little of the history of Celso Monteiro Furtado and some of his contributions to thinking about development and underdevelopment in Latin America, the Caribbean, and Brazil. The methodology adopted
for this research was qualitative, using the bibliographic review technique. Based on the research carried out, we concluded that to achieve development, it is necessary that we think of better forms of social homogenization, through equity devices.
